On December 17, 2017, an Arc Flash incident at an Integrity Windows plant left an electrician seriously injured. The electrician sustained burns to his arms, neck, elbow, and upper torso and was transported to a Minneapolis medical center for treatment. At the time of the incident, he was installing and testing breakers at the plant.
The most common cause of Arc Flash incidents and other electrical accidents is carelessness. Regardless of training or experience, factors such as distractions, fatigue, pressure to restore power, or overconfidence can lead electrical workers to bypass safety procedures, work without proper protection, drop tools, or accidentally create contact between energized conductors.
